Marking its 63rd Republic Day, India on Thursday donated 20 ambulances and four buses to different organisations and schools in twenty districts of Nepal.
The vehicles were handed over to the representatives of the recipient organisations and educational institutions at a function organised on the premises of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, according to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy. Prior to the handover function, Indian Ambassador Jayant Pasad delivered the Republic Day message to a gathering. Speaking on the occasion, Prasad shed light on various aspects of the Nepal-India relations.
The ambassador handed over keys of the vehicles to representatives of the recipient organisations, including Dhading District Hospital and Nepal Red Cross Society. Four ambulances were gifted by Ashutosh Agrawal, the consul general of India in Birgunj, said the release.
Prasad also handed over more than 200 pushcarts as gifts to various municipalities through the Ministry of Local Development for waste management.
In the afternoon, Ambassador Prasad hosted a reception to mark the Day. Leaders from various political parties, former prime ministers, incumbent ministers, senior bureaucrats, chiefs of security agencies, diplomats, journalists and industrialists were present at the reception.
